How to control prosthetic and robotic hands?
Current prostheses are far from the subtleties of human hand structure and usability, partly for structural and partly for control reasons. Biomimetic construction seems to be the most promising and universal answer to address the structural problems, but the control difficulties can be approached from several directions. This workshop will review the possibilities of both prosthesis control and robotic hand remote control.
In a short presentation, we will explain the principles and possibilities of surface electromyography (skin surface tension measurements due to muscle activity) and ultrasound measurements, and present our kinetic glove made in our Robotics Laboratory. The session will also include the opportunity to try out each of the devices.
